FID Chemie
We support researchers in molecular chemistry by providing access to high-quality specialist information and research findings. Our key tasks include:
- developing the ChemPortal web service portal, featuring a central search function for chemistry-related information, as well as guidance and overviews of tools for chemical research (including specialist databases, electronic lab notebooks, repositories and open access resources),
- providing information and training on Open Science and Open Access in chemistry,
- providing single-user licences for the specialised database “Science of Synthesis”,
- projects on knowledge graphs of chemical research results, and
- representing and connecting the chemical research community.
Our services are tailored to the needs of chemistry researchers. We are constantly developing them in collaboration with researchers, chemical societies and related initiatives. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, suggestions or ideas for joint projects.
Project and Team
The FID Chemie was launched in February 2026 and will initially run until 2029. The aim is to consolidate the services established over a twelve-year period and, in the long term, to establish itself as a recognised information infrastructure across the entire field of chemistry in Germany. The FID is a joint project of the Library of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT-BIB), the Institute for Biological and Chemical Systems at KIT (KIT-IBCS) and the Technical Information Library (TIB) in Hanover. Discipline-Specific Information Services
Discipline-Specific Information Services are projects funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) to support research in Germany. They aim to develop and expand subject-specific, predominantly digital and supra-regional information infrastructures tailored to researchers’ specialised needs, complementing the services provided by universities and research institutions. As part of the funding programme “Discipline-Specific Information Services”, the DFG currently funds 38 projects (as of July 2026).
