Community and Network
The Discipline-Specific Information Service for Chemistry (FID Chemie) is part of an interdisciplinary network and works closely with chemical researchers, chemical societies and initiatives, chemistry subject specialists of university libraries, other information services and National Research Data Infrastructures. To ensure quality assurance and maintain its independent focus, the project is supported by a scientific advisory board.
Chemistry Research Community
The FID focuses on the needs of researchers in the fields of organic and inorganic molecular chemistry. Current needs were identified in the run-up to the project through surveys and workshops. We will continue to engage the chemistry research community on an ongoing basis, in particular through regular needs assessments, the systematic collection of feedback, and exchanges at workshops and conferences.
Subject Specialists at Academic Libraries
Subject Specialists are subject-specific contacts within academic libraries, for example in literature acquisition and management, research data, publishing, bibliometrics, and training services. We aim to integrate their expertise into the further development of our services. At the same time, FID Chemie seeks to become a central hub for networking within the higher education landscape. Through a mailing list, we organise quarterly online meetings to discuss current topics – new members are welcome!
German Chemical Society
The German Chemical Society (GDCh), with approximately 28.000 members, represents a major community of professional and social significance within the field of chemistry. It supports the FID Chemie in areas such as public outreach. We maintain a close exchange to ensure effective and targeted engagement with the community.
Beilstein-Institut
The Beilstein-Institut promotes the communication and dissemination of high-quality information in chemistry through its two Open Access journals, international symposia, and initiatives aimed at improving the exchange of scientific data. Our collaboration includes areas such as cheminformatics-based knowledge organisation and public outreach.
NFDI4Chem
The NFDI4Chem supports chemists throughout the entire research data lifecycle, including the collection, storage, processing, analysis, publication, and reuse of research data in accordance with the FAIR principles. Our collaboration with NFDI4Chem includes the reuse of and referral to existing services, joint community needs assessments, and the organisation of collaborative events.
NFDI4Cat
The NFDI4Cat aims to transform catalysis research through the digitalisation of research data management and to accelerate the transition towards digital catalysis research. We refer to established services and align our activities around shared goals.
Thieme
In collaboration with the Thieme Group, we have been providing 50 single-user licenses for the specialist database Science of Synthesis in organic and organometallic chemistry since May 2026. The offer will be gradually expanded to 100 licenses by 2028.
FID-Network
The FID-Network brings together the Discipline-Specific Information Services (FID) in Germany and fosters cross-disciplinary exchange. The FID Chemie regularly participates in network activities and maintains close links with other science-focused FID, including FID Pharmacy, FID Physics, FID Materials Science und FID move. Through the exchange of expertise and the joint use and further development of existing tools and resources, valuable synergies and new opportunities for collaboration are created.
open-access.network
The open-access.network is a collaborative project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), which provides a central information and networking platform on open access. We collaborate on subject-specific training courses and workshops and develop tailored information on open access in chemistry.
